One of our very own #WomenInStem, Dr. Whitney Gaskins, is the recipient of the 2017 NAMEPA K-12 Champion Award! The National Association of Multicultural Engineering Program Advocates (NAMEPA) is honoring Dr. Gaskins with the K-12 Champion Award for her efforts in catalyzing change to help students from historically underrepresented minority populations overcome historic barriers, especially in the K-12 space. Dr. Gaskins is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Engineering Education, and she is also a #UC #CEAS Biomedical Engineering '03 alumnae. Dr. Gaskins is the Founder and President of the Gaskins Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit art and education organization that provides extraordinary opportunities for under recognized and under-represented youth.
The programming spearheaded by Dr. Gaskins reaches hundreds of students across Cincinnati and connects the community to the University of Cincinnati. Through her visionary leadership, she has opened many young minds to the possibilities in engineering and has provided academic and social support blazing a new path to success for these talented students.
